QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer) Program:
In 1998 the Surgeon General of the United States declared suicide a national problem and suicide prevention a national priority. The primary goals of the QPR training are to teach participants to recognize someone at risk for suicide, demonstrate increased knowledge of intervention skills, and describe knowledge of referral resources and how to refer someone to help. The training is designed for Gatekeepers, who are those citizens in every community who, because of their contact with those at risk of suicide, are often in the best position to identify and refer people thinking about suicide.
